This site is dedicated to providing general information, academic research, support resources, and personal stories to help build understanding about the experiences of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered members (or former members) of the LDS Church. It is our hope that current or former LGBT individuals, family/friends, allies, LGBT researchers, and general community members will find value here.
This site is owned and managed by the Open Stories Foundation, but is operated in partnership with Dr. Renee Galliher, Ph.D of Utah State University and Dr. William Bradshaw, Ph.D. of Brigham Young University (retired).
Note: Please know that we fully understand that the terms “homosexual” and “homosexuality” are deemed offensive by many. We are also keenly aware that the term “same-sex attracted” can illicit strong feelings within the LDS LGBT community. Finally, while the term “LGBTQ” is generally accepted within the academic and LGBTQ communities, we are aware that the public at large is still largely unfamiliar with this term. Consequently, because there is no perfectly acceptable term, we have decided to stay with “LDS Homosexuality” because: 1) we own the domain name, and 2) it is the term that will be familiar to the most amount of people (specifically, the people we are most trying to reach with this site, and to Google). Thank you for your patience with this decision.
